A trip to the Adirondack Foothills would not be complete without a stop at the Steuben Memorial State Historic Site. Owned and operated by New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation. On and off-site programs for schools and organizations. Group tours by appointment only. Bus and school tours are welcomed. Free admission. (2003) Some special events have nominal fee. Partially accessible, special accomodations available with advanced notice.

The Steuben Memorial State Historical Site is location on Starr Hill Road in the Town of Steuben. It is about 2.5 miles west of Route 12/28, north of Utica, N.Y. Gravesite and large stone memorial for Major General Baron Steuben within the "Sacred Grove", commemorative and picturesque historic park offers replica cabin, gift shop, picnic area, panoramic view of the beautiful historic Steuben and Mohawk Valleys. Facility hosts a variety of summer events and displays focusing on the later life, death and commemoration of this great American hero. (1730-1794)
